Aloha!

Launched in 2025, after some encouragement from my boys, Surf Shack Chic is a place for creative, budget conscious, do-it-yourselfers with eclectic, yet chic coastal style. If you were once afraid of power tools like me or thought you could not do home design or renovation by yourself, you are in the right place! Because you can do it! My goal is to inspire readers and share lessons learned in my adventures with DIY.
Born and raised in a coastal Connecticut town, I have always had a love for the ocean and all things beachy. As early as the third grade, I had a dream of moving to Hawaii (See picture below). For 10 years, I made that dream a reality. I lived in Mililani, HI on the island of Oahu. While I began to dabble in DIY since I owned my first home, I made the mistake of doing most work on my home until the year I sold it. I never got to enjoy what was done. In Hawaii, I really started to do more and more projects for both indoor and outdoor spaces. It enabled me to enjoy the home while living there and make changes affordably.

Since my return to Connecticut in 2022, I have been longing for the relaxed style of Hawaii. I love to mix surf style with others including Coastal, Farmhouse, Shabby Chic, and more. I adore vintage and antique pieces and celebrating local artists. Upcycling, reusing when possible, and limiting waste are also very important to me. If it was made 100 years ago, it will probably last another 100! My style is simply to surround myself with interesting things and making my home a place of relaxation and rejuvenation from my busy work week as an Oncology Nurse. When projects are done, I feel a sense of pride because not only do I love what I created, but I did it myself.
I hope this blog is a source of encouragement for you to make your space a reflection of you and all things that bring you joy!
